BUYER'S GUIDE

GoHighLevel Review UK: An Honest Verdict

Overall: 4 out of 5 for UK service businesses. 2 out of 5 for anyone whose main channel is email.

We have built on GoHighLevel since 2020 and implement it for a living, so treat this with appropriate scepticism. It also means we know exactly where it breaks, and this review says so.

Short version: it genuinely replaces six to eight tools for a flat fee, and the SMS and booking capability is excellent for appointment-driven businesses. The interface is inconsistent, releases break things, support is patchy, and the defaults are built for the American market.

    THE GENUINE STRENGTHS

    Six Things It Gets Right

    • 1

The economics — one flat fee with unlimited contacts and users, replacing a CRM, email tool, SMS platform, booking system, page builder and review tool. For most service businesses this is a genuine saving rather than a marketing claim.

    • 2

Native SMS and calling — properly built in, not bolted on. Missed-call text-back alone recovers enough work for many trades and clinics to justify the subscription.

    • 3

Booking that handles reality — availability rules, buffers, notice periods, round-robin assignment and reschedule handling all work properly, which is more than several dedicated booking tools manage.

    • 4

Unlimited automation on every tier — no artificial caps on workflow count or complexity, where most competitors restrict automation on entry plans.

    • 5

Sub-accounts — the architecture for managing multiple client workspaces is genuinely well designed, and it is the reason the agency market adopted it.

    • 6

Release velocity — features ship constantly. AI capability arrived early and has improved quickly.

    THE REAL PROBLEMS

Seven Things We Encounter on Every Build

    • 1

The interface is inconsistent. Different modules behave differently, settings live in places that make no sense, and the same action is done two different ways depending where you are. Teams need training they would not need on a more polished platform.

    • 2

Releases break things. The pace of shipping is a strength and a liability. We have seen working automations stop after a platform update, with no notification. Anything business-critical needs monitoring rather than trust.

    • 3

Support is the weakest part. Response quality varies enormously. Complex configuration questions frequently come back with documentation links that do not address the issue. This is the single most common complaint we hear from clients.

    • 4

Email is adequate, not good. Deliverability requires proper configuration and ongoing attention. Segmentation is basic next to ActiveCampaign or Klaviyo. If email drives your revenue, this is a serious limitation.

    • 5

Reporting is thin. You can see activity. Getting genuine commercial insight usually means exporting data or connecting external reporting. For a platform positioned as all-in-one, this is a real gap.

    • 6

Everything is American by default. Date formats, phone handling, time zones, consent assumptions and SMS configuration all assume a US business. None of it is unfixable, but all of it must be fixed, and most self-built accounts never are.

    • 7

The workflow builder does not scale gracefully. Ten workflows is manageable. Forty, built over two years by different people, becomes genuinely difficult to reason about. Documentation discipline is not optional.

Five Situations Where We Say No

We turn these away rather than take the work, because the implementation would not succeed.

    • 1

Organisations that cannot transfer data outside the UK — GoHighLevel is US-hosted. There is no configuration that avoids this. If data residency is a hard requirement, the platform is unsuitable and nothing else about it matters.

    • 2

Email-led ecommerce brands — if sophisticated segmentation, abandoned-cart flows and deliverability drive your revenue, moving to GoHighLevel is a downgrade regardless of the cost saving.

    • 3

Enterprises needing deep ERP integration — the API is capable but this is not what the platform is for, and you will spend more on custom development than a purpose-built system would cost.

    • 4

Businesses wanting a content-heavy website — GoHighLevel can host a site but WordPress gives you far better technical SEO control. Use GoHighLevel for funnels and WordPress for the site that needs to rank.

    • 5

Anyone expecting it to work out of the box — this is the most common failure. The platform is capable and badly configured by default. Budget for implementation or expect it to underperform.

    WHAT IT COSTS

    Real UK Monthly Cost

    PlanUSDApprox GBPReal UK monthly cost
    Starter$97~£77£110–£170
    Unlimited$297~£235£300–£500
    Pro$497~£395£550–£800

Real cost includes SMS and email usage, phone numbers and 20% VAT. Billed in US dollars with no UK tier, so your figure moves with the exchange rate.

Implementation is separate. UK market rates run from £50 to £100 per hour freelance up to £3,500 or more from a London agency. Ours start at £1,295 and are published in full.

    THE BOTTOM LINE

    Would We Recommend It?

For a UK service business that runs on enquiries, appointments and follow-up — yes, with the caveat that it needs configuring properly and your team needs training.

The value is real. A trades business paying for a CRM, a booking tool, an SMS service and a page builder is almost certainly spending more than $97 a month for a worse-connected result. The SMS and booking capability is genuinely excellent, and for appointment-driven businesses it is the reason to buy.

The caveats are also real, and most reviews skip them. Support is weak. Releases break things. Email is adequate rather than good. And it arrives configured for a market that is not yours.

The businesses that do well on GoHighLevel are the ones that treated implementation as a project rather than a signup. The ones that struggle bought it, imported a snapshot, and expected it to work.

If email is most of your revenue, or your data cannot leave the UK, buy something else. Those are not edge cases and we say so on the call.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    GoHighLevel Review Questions

Is GoHighLevel worth it in 2026?

For UK service businesses running on enquiries and appointments, yes — it typically replaces six to eight separate subscriptions for a flat $97 to $497 per month. For email-led ecommerce brands or organisations that cannot transfer data outside the UK, no.

What are the main problems with GoHighLevel?

Inconsistent interface, frequent releases that occasionally break working automations, variable support quality, email capability that lags dedicated platforms, thin reporting, and defaults configured for the US market rather than the UK.

Is GoHighLevel good for UK businesses?

It works well once configured for UK requirements — consent capture, SMS registration, date formats and payment processors. Out of the box it assumes an American business, and most self-built UK accounts never correct this.

    Is GoHighLevel's support any good?

It is the weakest part of the platform. Simple issues are handled reasonably; complex configuration questions often receive documentation links rather than answers. This is the most common complaint we hear.

Does GoHighLevel have good email deliverability?

It is adequate with proper configuration — authenticated sending domains, SPF, DKIM, DMARC and sensible warm-up. It is behind ActiveCampaign and Klaviyo on segmentation and deliverability tooling. If email drives your revenue, weigh this carefully.

    Is GoHighLevel hard to learn?

Harder than it should be. The interface is inconsistent between modules and the learning curve is steeper than HubSpot's. Team training matters more here than on more polished platforms.

Can I set up GoHighLevel myself?

Technically yes, and plenty do. The accounts that underperform are usually self-built or snapshot-imported, because the correct build order is not obvious and the UK configuration is easy to miss.

    Is GoHighLevel GDPR compliant?

It can be configured to support your compliance — consent capture, retention rules, unsubscribe and suppression. But it is US-hosted, so implementation transfers personal data outside the UK under appropriate safeguards. If your organisation cannot accept that, it is unsuitable.

What is the best alternative to GoHighLevel?

It depends on why it does not fit. ActiveCampaign for email-led businesses with small lists. HubSpot for sales-led teams needing strong reporting. Keap if native invoicing is essential.

Why does an agency that sells GoHighLevel criticise it?

Because the criticism is accurate and you would find it out anyway. We would rather tell you the weaknesses now than have you discover them three months into an implementation.

    STILL DECIDING?

We Will Tell You Not to Buy It

Tell us what you need the system to do, what you currently pay for, and whether email or appointments drive your revenue. If GoHighLevel is the wrong platform, you will hear that on the call rather than after the invoice.
